More Than Just a Live Show

On May 2nd, 2025, Club Zentral Stuttgart came alive. The local modern metalcore band, FIND MY SPIRIT, brought their heavy riffs and charged vocals to the stage. However, this performance was not just another concert for the band; it marked the premiere of a long-planned visual upgrade. We had been crafting this upgrade in secret for over a year.

As the person in charge of the LED display, this was my first experience with live show production. I was excited to create a new visual identity for the band's performances. My responsibilities included designing animations and syncing them live with the drummer. This project was more than a technical task; it was a creative journey.

Built to Adapt

Adapting visuals for mid-sized venues was one of our biggest challenges. For FIND MY SPIRIT, most venues have a raised drum platform. This configuration makes it hard to place a large LED wall behind the drummer.

To solve this, we divided the visuals into three independent yet synchronized screens. The distance between the back screen and the two front screens allowed us to create an immersive 3D effect. This design maintained a dynamic stage presence, even in tight spaces. The effects were versatile, whether displayed on a single widescreen or split into panels, they were always energetic and coherent.

The content drew inspiration from the band’s singles and album concepts. Working closely with lead singer Thomas Marty was a highlight of my creative process. Each session felt more like a therapy session than a job. We turned ideas into visuals that deeply resonated with the emotional message of each song.

Syncing Image with Sound

Creating the LED show was only half the battle; the real challenge was achieving live synchronization. All visuals had to be pre-rendered, carefully cued, and triggered in real time with the drummer's performance. This required extensive rehearsal time, constant adjustments, and meticulous fine-tuning.

While the final concert is what the public remembers, the true magic unfolded during rehearsals. Those sessions transformed into something extraordinary. We could see our hard work pay off as we elevated the concert experience. Together, we forged a shared experience, lifting the performance to an unparalleled level.

Not Losing Momentum

As the performance video approaches release, I've reflected on our journey. We faced many delays, revisions, and technical headaches that almost derailed our vision. Yet, none of these challenges stopped us. On May 2nd, we delivered a premiere we are immensely proud of.

What started as a dream and a few drinks evolved into a significant milestone. There is still much to improve and refine as we continue pushing the boundaries of local concert production. We remain hungry to raise the bar for what local shows can achieve.
